When I write about housing a post might take me 45 minutes to write. A more nettlesome topic might take two hours. But when I write anything in connection to my interest in the Aeneid, it can take weeks or even months to put something together. Unlike writing about housing, writing about what I’d call the trinity — Virgil’s Aeneid, Augustine’s Confessions, and Dante’s Divine Comedy — time moves slow and distractions abound. I was thinking about a comparative post about Elepenor a character in Homer’s Odyssey, Palinurus from the Aeneid, and James Joyce’s Finnegan’s Wake. Instead, I need to write about poetic meter.
